Get Ready
Here it is, the last weekend in April, and what a weekend it’s going to be. There might be papers to write, projects to complete and finals to take, but all of that will take a back seat starting tomorrow.
What could possibly be going on to cause such a commotion? Everything.
First, you can begin your weekend by attending one of the biggest track meets in America, the Hillsdale “GINA” Relays. Starting today at the Ken Herrick track and going on until Saturday, citizens of Hillsdale will be able to come and witness almost 2,000 collegiate athletes competing in everything from the hammer throw to the 100-meter dash to the steeplechase.
In order to get in the mood for this track and field extravaganza, you should take some time Saturday morning to take part in the Wyld Bill 5k road race. Yes, five kilometers does equal just over three miles, and yes, three miles does seem like a long way to run. But think of it this way: You get to spend some time with your closest friends, assuming you get them to sign up along with you, you get one of the sweetest t-shirts around and you finally get started on that New Year’s resolution to get back in shape. It’s a win-win situation all around. The only question is, “Why haven’t you signed up yet?”
Now, you might be asking if everything going on this weekend is sports related. Heck no. This is Hillsdale for crying out loud. The party’s going to be going on for those involved with the arts this weekend, as well. Those wishing to take in something a little more sophisticated can spend their time examining the student art exhibits in Sage. Also, there will be a Big Band concert in Markel Auditorium tomorrow night, as well as a SAI concert Saturday night.
Other notable events this weekend include the finale of Greek Week, the Mu Alpha Frisbee Tournament and pig roast, Charger Football’s spring game and an orchestra concert.
All of this will take place just moments before the biggest party seen this side of the Hillsdale County Fair, Centralhallapalooza. After spending the previous two days working out, cheering on your fellow students and appreciating the culture that Hillsdale College has to offer, what better way to relax than by partying it up Saturday night with a concert on College Street? I know I can’t think of anything else that I’d rather be doing.
I think it’s safe to say that the campus will be buzzing this entire weekend with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. Which means that everyone needs to take a break from all the pressures the end of the semester brings. So, put down the thesis, turn off the computer and relax a little while you take in the full college experience in two to three days.
One of the only questions that needs to be answered now is, “How am I going to have enough energy for this whole weekend?” I guess I can always push back that whole studying thing for a couple more days.
Man, what a weekend.
