Additional support for the “Stephen Casai Dining Hall”

I echo Hans Zeiger and John Reist in their Nov. 3 letters to the Collegian. We should name the new dining hall after Stephen Casai, better known as “Saga Steve.”

He has supported this school and its students for a long time. For his support he deserves our thanks, our honor and our recognition.

Our new dining hall provides us with a great opportunity to display what Casai deserves.

All of this discussion about the naming of the new student union dining hall has left my mind with its share of slaw to chew.

Of course I think it is important to honor a donor’s contribution by perhaps dedicating a school facility in their name—the meat and potatoes of respect. But the fine people who invest their time and lives in those of the students are the same ones that graduates will remember like hot beef stew on a chilly day.

That is why I think Stephen Casai’s name has a deserving place on our new student union dining hall.

As someone who values a smile and a “go-get-’em” on a rough day, I say we honor Hillsdale’s longest-time friendliest face.

I would like to register my opinion that the new dining hall in the Grewcock Student Union should be named for Stephen Casai.

Naming the new dining hall after “Saga” Steve Casai would greatly add to Hillsdale College’s campus. Doing so would show college visitors how close-knit our faculty, staff and students are.

Also, it would provide an amazing way for alumni to get involved with the new Student Union by supporting efforts for the Stephen Casai Dining Hall.

I encourage the administration to seriously consider such an effort, and I thank Steve for what he is to each of us.
