Fit Tip of the Week: "The Hundred"

Stephanie Riebe/Collegian

Junior Natalie Mock demonstrates “The Hundred.”

This week’s Fit Tip was submitted by Coach Aumock.

 “The Hundred”

1. Lie on your back, knees bent at a 90-degree angle, with arms at your sides and palms facing down.

2. Inhale, dropping your shoulders and opening your chest, and exhale as you curl your upper body upwards, with your arms raised off the floor and fingertips reaching towards your ankles.

3. Hold the position (you should be able to feel your abdomen muscles contract).

4. Pump arms up and down three to four inches, five times as you inhale.  Pump arms up and down again 5 times as you exhale, for a total of 10 arm pumps per breath cycle.

5. Repeat for 10 breath cycles (for a total of one "hundred" arm pumps!).

6. To increase the intensity of this exercise, lift the knees up above the hips. Extend one leg out away from your body, then the other.

Neck Pain?  Try supporting your head with one hand, elbow pointing outward, with arm as flat as possible to keep the chest open.
