As Hillsdale continues to implement its renovation and expansion plans, the weight room in the Roche Sports Complex got a mini-facelift during the summer with the addition of a cardio area.
“We punched a hole in the wall and spilled the weight room facility into a racquetball court, which alleviated a lot of traffic in there,” Coach Nate Shreffler said.
Shreffler said that the fixed weight equipment was moved into the racquetball court, along with a few new ellipticals, several treadmills, and some bikes. There is a mix of old and new equipment in the new cardio area, and Shreffler said there is more new equipment expected to arrive sometime this week.
“The weight room will go through another renovation a few years down the road, but for now it will probably stay pretty much the same. We’ll continue to add and upgrade equipment,” Shreffler said.
Reactions to the expansion of the weight room have generally been very positive.
“I like it, but it’s hot. It’s extremely hot in there all the time,” sophomore Abby Klarr said. Klarr uses the new cardio area three or four times a week.
Senior Mike Gerbasi thought the new addition opened up the area, making it easier for sports teams to use the weight room.
“I just had knee surgery, so I really like the bikes right now,” Gerbasi said.
A team of students helps maintain the new cardio area, wiping down and cleaning the equipment.
