Constitution Party moving backwards

In Michigan's 7th Congressional District, the voters have a choice between a moderate and extremist this election year. David Horn labels Joe Schwarz as a liberal, but he fails to mention that he and his party, the Constitution Party, are far from being conservative. The Constitution Party is so far from the mainstream that its members are prime examples of isolationists and religious zealots making the more dangerous than the Democrats.

The most frightening aspect of the Constitution Party and David Horn is their foreign policy. According to them, the liberations of Afghanistan and Iraq were illegal because there was no declaration of war. I guess the Constitution Party does not see the murdering of 3,000 Americans as an act of war. Further, they ignore the resolutions passed by Congress authorizing the use of force, which are modern day declarations of war.

If you think that is crazy there is more insanity.

Instead of expanding our global presence to counter the threats to freedom, the Constitution Party and David Horn want to retreat faster than the Democrats. They are against NATO and all other military alliances because they are "foreign entanglements." Further, they would remove all defense aid to free nations in peril like Israel. How can you call yourself a party of freedom when you refuse to defend it around the world?

Almost as frightening as their naïve foreign policy is their asinine economic policy. Most people would agree that free trade is a good thing with some minor differences on how it should be run.

Instead of supporting progress, the Constitution Party and David Horn want to practice the flawed system of protectionism.

Further, they want the chief source of government revenue to be tariffs. Tariffs on all imports and exports would lead to trade wars, which would destabilize the American economy like nothing else. Another crazy economic policy of the Constitution Party and David Horn deals with our money. Instead of maintaining the successful system we have now, they want to return to the days of gold and silver. This would not work seeing that there is not enough gold or silver in the world to do it.

Do we want to depart from progress and return to the isolation of the past?

Another disturbing facet of the Constitution Party is its obsession with religion. I am a Christian, but I would hold the same political beliefs even if I wasn't. I do not mind when leaders share their personal beliefs, but the Constitution Party and David Horn take it too far. They believe that Congress needs to pass legislation acknowledging the existence of God. Do true believers need the government to tell them that God exists? In addition, isn't God above government according to the Bible?

There is more insanity on immigration and other issues which is available on the Constitution Party's website, www.constitutionparty.org.

I admit that Joe Schwarz might not be the most conservative Republican, but at least he is still within the mainstream of American politics where as David Horn is nothing more than a zealot. Most importantly, why would we want a representative more reckless than the Democrats? Joe Schwarz will fight for our security where David Horn would run and hide.
