Baseball drops two close games at Findlay

The air of the Bowling Green Burger King was
permeated with disappointment after the men's baseball team
dropped two heartbreakers to Findlay Wednesday.
In both games the men were still in it entering the bottom
of the sixth inning, but the Oilers put together a couple of
superb innings to seal it. The team is now 12-30 and 6-22 in
the GLIAC.
In the first installment, the Chargers put together a solid
three run first inning to gain the early lead.
Junior Charlie Krebs made it a four-run lead with a third inning
solo home run, but Findlay scored their first in the bottom
of the third.
The Oilers took advantage of sophomore pitcher Corey Krug (4-7)
in the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits and a couple of
walks. Not to be outdone, Hillsdale added another run in the
sixth to tie it up.
But Findlay put the game out of reach by scoring five runs
in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore Kyle Wade did his part
for the Chargers with a seventh inning home run, but it was
not enough, and they fell, 10-6.
"I just didn't pitch very well," Krug said. "Plus,
it was a rough day with the wind. We really played well, but
just gave some up at bad times. We were there the whole time."
In the second round, they came out swinging again with a two
run first inning. Findlay tied it up in the second, and took
a 4-2 lead in the fourth.
Hillsdale took the lead back in the fifth, 5-4, but Findlay
scored a quick run in the sixth to knot it at 5-5.
But it just was not in the stars for the Chargers to get the
win.
Findlay hit what would have been a pop-out on a normal day.
But the wind took the ball and propelled it over the fence to
give the Oilers the second decision of the day by the final
score of 7-5.
Krebs led the team with two doubles, and sophomore Andy Lovell
(2-7) recorded the loss for the Chargers.
"It was pretty disappointing to lose both games in the
sixth inning," coach Paul Noce said. "The guys did
a good job, but we just came up short. We played well enough
to win."
"There's just nothing you can do sometimes," Krebs
said. "We had good offense and some good pitching, and
we still lost the game."
The Chargers will travel to Mercyhurst on Saturday for a doubleheader
and will finish up their season Sunday with another doubleheader.
