field team traveled to Michigan State University last Saturday
to compete, setting more personal bests on their outdoor season.
In the 800-meter, junior Stephanie Carroll
ran a time of 2 minues, 13.45 seconds to provisionally qualify
for nationals.
"The team competed well this weekend,
especially considering we are still in the strength-building
phase and are nowhere near our peak," coach Penny Neer
said.
Along with Carroll, Katie Smith, freshman,
ran a personal best in the 800-meter at 2:19.82 and, competing
in this event for the first time, freshman BethAnn Lannen ran
a 2:27.76.
In the 1,500-meter race, three women from
the team set personal bests. Two sophomores, Carrie Douglas
and Shannon Stanglewicz ran 4:56.15 and 5.01.72, respectively.
Lannen also had a personal best with 4:57.43,
and Joanna Grille, sophomore, set a season best with a time
of 5:03.71.
Continuing her impressive outdoor season,
senior Tauna Blacquiere ran a personal best of 1:03.79 in the
400-meter hurdles.
In field results, junior Sara Monteleone,
placed a personal best in shot put, throwing 41-3. Emily Sharp
threw her seasonal best of 39-4.
Monteleone threw another personal best in
the hammer, hitting a 135-10. Along with her, Robin Joecken,
sophomore, hit her personal best at 128-7.
In discus, senior Sarah Etchey tossed a personal
best in this event, hitting a 108-2.
The team is working to build strength and
speed for the end of the season.
"[We're looking] to develop in events
where there is great opportunity for points at the GLIAC meet,"
Neer said.
Sophomore Heidi Johnson is back from an injury
and said she is happy with the team's performance.
"The team is doing really great. It's
a really fun atmosphere, and all the events are working hard
and doing what they need to do to get the job done," she
said.
