Pingpong, Baby!

Students gathered yesterday near the entrance area of Curtiss Dining Hall to compete in a pingpong tournament.

Freshman Nathan Stoops organized the event with the help of Randy Stehlik and freshman Jason Gehrke, who organized the groundwork for the tournament.

"This is to show everyone our setup for next semester and to get people interested," Stoops said.

Twenty-three students played in the tournament, which was divided into a male and female competition.

Stoops announced at the event that the forming of a table tennis club, which will compete on a more serious basis, is in the works for next semester.

"Right now I am in the paperwork stage of planning that out, but over the summer everything should be completed as far as Hillsdale's requirements for a club sport go, and we'll start it up in the fall."

The plan is to compete within Hillsdale College as a club sport for approximately a year, and during that time form a competitive team to play in the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association.

From there the club team will compete with other registered schools such as Michigan State University.
