The dumbest rally/protest ever

The "support the troops" rally held in front of Central Hall yesterday evening, as well as the "bring 'em home" counter-rally held fifty yards away in front of Moss Hall, were the most pathetic displays of political activism we have ever seen.

The scene was comic: About 50 people stood around holding mini American flags and chatting-not chanting-while a few aged security guards strolled about the perimeter of the campus, presumably to protect Rep. Mike Rogers, who never showed up. Even better was the counter-rally: five or six scruffy-looking students standing around despondently in front of Moss Hall smoking cigarettes, complaining, making fun of conservatives and staring at their hand-made protest signs.

If yesterday's "rally" accomplished nothing else, it proved that this sort of thing should never be attempted at Hillsdale again, unless the two sides square off and try to shout each other down or throw stones or something. We'd be up for watching that. At least it would be entertaining, and not so dorky.
