Hillsdale’s women’s indoor track team traveled to Saginaw Valley State University on January 14 to compete at the Cardinal Collegiate Open meet.The women competed very well throughout the day, seeing many of their teammates place in numerous events.Sophomore sprinter Jenna Soccorsi had an outstanding day for the Chargers placing 5th in the 400-meter dash (1:02.17) and 7th in both the 55-meter dash (7.90) and 200 meter dash (27.90).Senior captain Maryea Pike ran a great time of 59.38 seconds in the 400-meter dash, only two-tenths of a second from the leader.Sophomore Alicia Britton finished 7th in the 55 meter hurdles competition.Sophomore Jessica Warner worked hard and finished 6th in the pole vault with a height of 8’6’’.Hillsdale’s historically strong distance runners continued to build upon their reputation with a fantastic meet.In the longest of the sprints, the 800 meters, Tara Shamey ran a time of 2:23.53, good for 5th place.The Chargers dominated the mile run standings placing three runners in the top eight.Sophomore Kelly McNeilance led the way in 4th place (5:26.01).Freshman Jenny Belsley was close on her heels in 5th place (5:26.71).Taking 8th place was sophomore Anna Webster (5:36.39).The Lady Chargers saw three more runners take top spots in the 3000-meter run as well.Tara Shamey came away with 2nd place (10:59.46) and sophomore Kristen Warner grabbed 3rd (11:10.88).Anna Webster continued her great day by taking 7th (11:29.00).In the 5000 meter run, Allie Burum placed 2nd only to an experienced unattached runner in 18.17.09.Trudy Chase ran well and was awarded 5th place for her time of 19:03.20.Hillsdale also competed well in the two relay events.The Chargers took 4th (4:16.57) and 8th (4:25.48) in the 1600-meter relay.They also placed 3rd in the 3200-meter relay with a time of (9:42.00).The Lady Chargers left SVSU’s James E. O’Neill, Jr. Arena with a lot to show for their efforts.They competed against 14 other teams, including four fellow GLIAC conference squads.
