Hillsdale, Mich. — The No. 13 ranked Hillsdale men's cross country team ran a strong race at the Great American Festival on Sept. 26 in North Carolina. Hillsdale finished second overall (out of 21 teams) in the University division race, tallying 91 points, which trailed UMass-Lowell, who won with 55 points.

The Chargers were led by Gordon Fisher (sixth place) and Kyle Fujimoto (11th). David Sayers ran a solid race with a 19th place finish overall. Rounding out the top five for the Chargers were two freshmen, Matt Wish and Lewis Butler, finishing 27th and 28th, respectively.

GLIAC rival Grand Valley State finished third and another region foe, Southern Indiana, finished fourth. The meet site will also be hosting the NCAA Division II Nationals later this season on November 22.

Hillsdale (11th in the Nation in 2002) is looking forward to returning, but will have to qualify on November 8 at the Great Lakes Regional.

The Chargers compete in South Bend this Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational. Hillsdale won the Gold Division last year at ND and will move up this year into the stronger University "Blue" division.
