11 Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at GLIAC Championships

Rapids, Mich.— The No. 11 Hillsdale men’s cross
country team finished third among 12 teams at the 2003
GLIAC Championships on Saturday. The Chargers tallied
61 points, which trailed second-place Wayne State (60)
by just one point. Grand Valley won the conference title
with 35 points.
Junior
Kyle Fujimoto (Rockford, Mich.) was Hillsdale’s top
finisher, placing seventh overall with a time of 25:20.6.
For his efforts, Fujimoto was named First Team All-Conference.
Following
closely behind Fujimoto was a pack of Chargers, who
placed 12th through 16th. Junior Michael Nikkila (Kearney,
Neb.) placed 12th with a time of 25:30.1, which was
followed by freshman Matt Wish (Rockford, Mich.) in
13th (25:31.8), sophomore Scott Kallgren (Trenton, Mich.)
in 14th (25:32.7), senior Gordon Fisher (Ocean Springs,
Miss.) in 15th (25:37) and sophomore David Sayers (Ocean
Springs, Miss.) in 16th (25:39.8). Nikkila, Wish and
Kallgren all earned Second Team All-Conference honors
for their times.
Hillsdale
placed second in last year’s conference championships.
