Ransom Dunn


Professor Ransom Dunn, sometimes called the Grand Old Man of Hillsdale, served the College in various capacities (professor, fund-raiser, president) from 1852 to 1900. From 1853 to 1855, he obtained over $10,000 of the original college funding by travelling 6,000 miles by carriage through frontier Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota.
