FOOTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL IN NCAA DII PLAYOFFS
Football Team Wins First Ever NCAA DII Appearance
The Charger Football Team traveled to Minnesota State University at Mankato, Saturday, and came away with a dramatic overtime win, 27-24, to advance to the second round of the NCAA DII playoffs. They will face GLIAC Conference foe, Grand Valley State University (at GVSU), next Saturday, November 21, at 1 o’clock.
Hillsdale (10-2) will be looking to prove that their exciting win over Grand Valley (11-1) earlier this year was no fluke. At Homecoming on October 10th, the Chargers handed the Lakers their only loss of the season, and their first conference loss in five years, in front of the largest home crowd in nearly twenty years.
Hundreds of Charger fans made the trek to Minnesota to cheer on the Blue and White. Among others, two bus-loads of students traveled 11 hours overnight to make game time, then re-boarded the busses immediately following the game for the long drive back to The Dale – a drive made to feel a little shorter by the happy outcome.
An even larger Charger crowd is expected to make the trip to Allendale, MI (just west of Grand Rapids) on Saturday. For ticket information and other news related to the game, stay tuned to the Hillsdale College web site, a link to which is provided below.

Volleyball Team Takes First Ever GLIAC Crown, Makes NCAA DII Midwest Regional Tournament
First, the Lady Chargers Volleyball Team earned the right to host the 2009 GLIAC Conference Championship Tournament this past weekend. Then, in the first round on Saturday night, they proceeded to avenge an earlier loss to Ashland University in order to advance to the Conference Finals against Saginaw Valley on Sunday.
Saginaw gave Hillsdale all they could handle, extending the match to a fifth set tie-breaker before the Chargers finally dispatched the Cardinals 18-16 to win the conference title.
Despite impressive national rankings and making NCAA DII playoff appearances in recent years, this was the first time the Charger Volleyball squad has ever won the GLIAC Conference meet.
The team now travels to the University of Indianapolis on Thursday (November 19) where, as the fifth seed, they will face No. 4 seed Northern Michigan who defeated the Chargers earlier this year.
